Estill Voice Training I: Three Figures for Voice

Freitag, 1. Oktober, 16h30 - 18h30

Estill Voice Training, based on the pioneering voice research of Jo Estill, allows singers, actors and clinicians alike to see, hear and feel the voice in new ways. By exploring how individual vocal structures influence voice quality through Figures for Voice (Estill exercises) we can approach the refinement of singing voice production - in familiar voice qualities or new ones - with greater precision and confidence. This workshop will give an overview of the theoretical foundation of Estill Voice Training and introduce three key Figures: False Vocal Fold Control, Head, Neck and Torso Anchoring, and Aryepiglottic Sphincter Control. As is true of all Estill workshops and courses, the emphasis will be on maintaining vocal health. This session will include lecture, group participation and open coaching with ample opportunity for questions.

Robert Sussuma, a voice and movement educator with a unique background, Robert brings together his expertise in the Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education and Estill Voice Training (along with other modalities and experiences) to create a learning environment that integrates the whole self into the study of voice and voice into the study of the whole self. He recognizes that one cannot study voice alone without looking at one’s habits of self-use in breathing, standing and moving. Through movement and sound awareness exercises, he helps students become aware of and reorganize their own habitual “posture” and learn to find a more neutral, efficient and free use of self in life, learning, practice and performance. When one understands the relationships between breathing, moving, dynamic stillness, singing/speaking and expression one can ‘learn how to learn’ in a way that allows for performance with maximum vocal and physical choice throughout the entire creative process.
